     On November 12, 1922, at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana, seven young educators organized Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., a historically black collegiate organization. Our goal is to achieve greater progress in the areas of education.  Our chapter has a history of providing positive and proactive community outreach with a commitment to promoting the greater good in education and leadership development.

     Beta Kappa Sigma Chapter scholarships are open to those who will be enrolled in a community college, four-year university, graduate school, vocational/technical school, or a certification program. The scholarship award (various denominations) will be made available for use for help with the college/university expenses.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

  1. Applicant must reside, or attend school, in Hillsborough County, Florida.

  2. Applicant must have a minimum unweighted GPA of at least a 3.0 or higher, on a 4.0 scale.

  3. Applicant must provide a current, and up to date transcript/academic record.

  4. Applicant must provide an acceptance letter or verification of enrollment from the community college, four-year university, vocational/technical school, or certification program that you attend or plan on attending for the 2024-2025 school year.

  5. Applicant must select at least one of the topics provided, and write an essay not to exceed 500 words. Please note that your essay carries great weight in the evaluation of your application.

    1. How have you epitomized “greater service” in your life?

    2. How has the place where you've grown up impacted who you are today?

    3. What particular accomplishment in your life has given you the greatest satisfaction? Why?

    4. How does social media influence our youth today?

    5. What is the greatest obstacle you’ve had to overcome?  What did you learn from overcoming that obstacle?

    6. How have you contributed to the community and what motivates you to do so?

    7. What are your views about the United States attempts to ban TikTok?

  6. Applicant must submit at least one (1); but, no more than three (3) letters of recommendation. At least one letter should be from a community leader, teacher, professor, employer, coach, administrator, principal, religious leader, or guidance counselor.   

  7. Applicant must complete application in its entirety, inclusive of requested documentation. The application should be submitted electronically no later than 11:59pm EST on April 15, 2024 , in order to be considered for this scholarship.
